When it comes to the arts, whether it be music and fine arts, money always seems to be the artists struggle. Most artists have to take time off work to do what they love so that they will hopefully make a career but then the cash drains away because they are doing what they love.
In the Amanda Palmer book there is a bit where she is talking about being married to Neil Gaiman and how she hates taking money off him because she feels like she's failed if she does but Neil thinks that it's silly because he's her husband and wants to help her but she is too stubborn to accept the help.
