BOOK REVIEW: And on that Bombshell - Richard Porter

I'd been meaning to read this book for a long time, I've always been a fan of Top Gear. I'm not really a petrol head; I'm a motor sports fan and can appreciate a good looking car, but that's where it ends. I watch Top Gear mainly to watch 3 blokes dicking about.

This book is a behind-the-scenes look at the show by script editor Richard Porter. It's full of interesting little known facts and never heard before heard of stories from the production of Top Gear.

From the outset it's obvious that the author was very fond of his time working on the show and writes about the 3 hosts with much warmth. The book makes it clear that Jeremy, James and Richard were not starry unapproachable presenters but just 3 more members of the crew, mucking in with the script and countless ideas for the show.

Among the stories in the book are the ill-fated Argentinian trip, Richards near death crash in vampire which left him hospitalised for a few weeks and, of course, the incident that ended the Clarkeson, Hammond and Mayers of Top Gear. There are many other stories that you should read the book to discover.

Any fan of Top Gear will find this book fascinating and is a very worthwhile use of your time.
